BOOK NAME: Jonathan Livingston Seagull
Author : Richard Bach
Well, the story refutes the Indian philosophy of seven births and rather talks about 1200 births. Jokes apart, the book is an awesome creation and as optimistic as it could be. A story where nothing goes wong and even if it does, it gives the reader a new ray of hope.
It talks about Seagull, the seagull, Jonathan Livingston Seagull. Jonathan though born in the Seagull family has different aspirations and dreams. Where all of his ilk spend their lives eating and striving for a longer life, Jon tries to find his pleasures in flying. He refutes the attempts of his family and society to restrain himas a low flying, always hunting bird.
He pursues his flying practice. Soon he achieves heights greater than those ever achieved by any of the Seagulls ever. He flies to massive 8000ft and attains a great speed of 212mile/hr. He returns to his community to show them that they can also fly if they wish to. But, he is outcasted as a reward.
In part two he reaches heaven and learns unparalleled skills from seagulls who, to his astonishment, are of his kind. They love to fly. He learns to fly beyond time and space. But, then realises that it would have been more pleasure if he would have achieved it on the earth.
In part three he again reaches the earth. He finds a few students who wish to learn the flying methodologies from him. He teaches them and along with his students marches along again to his society. They society still desn accet him but is shocked and surprised of the flying skills the group developed inspite of being outcasts. A month of staying away in solitude yields in a revolution. And soon many students join him. His brave efforts transform many seagulls. The Seagull start regarding him as a miracle which he apparently was not.
The story ends on a very calm note of a talk between jon and his student.
A beautifully written and drafted book. In 86 pages (with pictures), this book communicates those feelings which many authors are not even able to portray in a thousand pages.
A feel good story. A must read.
